Kugel Mesh Settlement Approved By Ontario Court

A settlement has been reached in the class action relating to certain mesh hernia repair products with the brand names Kugel, Composix Kugel, Modified Kugel or Ventralex. The lawsuit alleged that these products contained rings that could break or buckle causing complications.  The defendants deny the allegations and they were not proven in court.

The Ontario Court of Justice has now approved the settlement reached between class counsel and the defendants. Patients who were implanted with these products and have suffered injuries may be entitled to compensation. There are deadlines included in the Notice of Settlement Approval so any affected individuals must act without delay.  The Notice of Settlement Approval is available in both English and French.

Stevensons LLP, along with a group of firms around Canada, acted as class counsel in the action. Banister & Company was counsel to the representative plaintiff in British Columbia.
